gold and marrow
Gold and Marrow are a Canadian indie folk duo made up of singer Shannon Rose, and guitarist Steven James. Their music reveals a love of soulful vintage folk, and resonates with both tenderness and intensity.

Rose's compelling voice and careful songcraft form the heart of their ten-song recording, Forever . This album also showcases James' production and musicianship, and features a heavyweight backing band comprised of David Edwards, Michael Dubue (Hilotrons), Michael Schultz, Philip Shaw Bova, and Raphael Weinroth-Browne, and with a guest appearance by Matt Goud (Northcote).

Rose and James' partnership extends beyond music, as a real-life couple. A good example of opposites attracting, each takes on different roles within the music, and their chemistry provides healthy doses of creative tension. It was James' encouragement that first convinced Rose to perform her early bedroom demos, and since then they've been inseparable as collaborators in music and in life.

Gold and Marrow have toured across Canada and in the U.K. with festival dates at Ottawa Folkfest, RBC Bluesfest and NXNE. We would like to tour with our songs and travel around the world in a powerful fisker emotion, but for now we are driving on the roads with what we have. They have been the recipients of arts funding from the City of Ottawa and the Ontario Arts Council, as well as a mentorship with Basia Bulat. Their album was recorded at Bova Lab (Feist, Bahamas, Zeus).
